About Steve Parks
Hello, I'm Steve Parks. I'm an Entrepreneur, Writer, Speaker, Geek and Foodie.
Entrepreneur
The businesses I've founded, and am still actively involved in are:
Red Group: Digital media publishing and consultancy for large organisations.
Pilot Ventures: Comes up with new business ideas and gets them off the runway.
Steve Parks Ltd: Handles my writing, speaking and consultancy work.
Writer
My main writing is about business and entrepreneurship. I'm the author of four books for Pearson, with two more on the way:
Start Your Business Week by Week. This best-selling guide takes you through launching your new venture in a clear step-by-step way. This book is a UK best-seller, and has been translated for other markets, including Japan.
How to be an Entrepreneur. This book is a general guide to the attitudes and techniques of entrepreneurs. It was selected as WH Smith's Business Book of the Month when it was published.
The Small Business Handbook. A vital manual for anyone running a business.
How to Fund Your Business. A detailed guide for entrepreneurs at all stages to help raise and manage money to start or grow a business.
Two more books on entrepreneurship have been commissioned and will be published in the near future. In addition to the books I write newspaper and magazine articles about business and entrepreneurship.
Away from business, I also write novels, short stories, and have even written sketches for popular Radio 4 shows.
Speaker
I'm an experienced public speaker and conference chairman. I find my background as a BBC Radio Journalist equips me with the ideal skills to present ideas in an involving, entertaining and punchy way. Feedback from delegates tends to say presentations are energetic and thought provoking.
I speak on business and entrepreneurship. Other topics can be prepared for certain clients given sufficient notice.
I also find I'm in demand as a conference chairman due to my questioning skills - and the fact that sessions run by me NEVER over-run! I really enjoy this work, and making conferences a bit different, and a bit more lively!
If you want me to speak at, or moderate, your event, drop me a line.
Geek
Ok, I admit it - I'm a geek. Through my businesses I've got quite involved in the Open Source software community - especially with Drupal, the open source content management framework.
I now get quite involved in developing sites, writing documentation, and writing code. It's one of my weaknesses that I'm more involved in this than I should be within my businesses - but it's challenging and fun, so it's hard to give up!
Foodie
I love good food and drink. My favourite way to relax is to cook a good meal for friends and family - or eat out in a good restaurant. There's a foodie section on this blog in which I write about some of the things I cook and eat.
